Two Swedish Girls Cover Fleet Foxes in the Woods

September 5th, 2008 . by Jilly

Finding a good YouTube cover is like finding a needle in the haystack. Most are pretty annoying. Enter two Swedish girls covering Fleet Foxes’ “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” in the forest.

This video will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling. Their voices harmonize so beautifully. I’ve been playing it over and over again.

New My Brightest Diamond: From the Top of the World(video)

August 22nd, 2008 . by Jilly

My Brightest Diamond has a new video out for “From the Top of the World”. This song is off her new album A Thousand Shark’s Teeth, which came out in June.

This video is beautiful and ethereal. Although, I could’ve done with out the papier-mache mustached man that resembles the Pringles dude.

Twenty-two Blur videos

July 28th, 2008 . by Jilly

Parlophone put up 22 of Blur’s videos on their YouTube channel here this week. They’re taken from Blur’s Best of DVD.

I watched all of these videos in a row, and I thought it was really interesting to see the band’s progression over the last 10 years (seriously…watch There’s No Other Way and then watch Song 2). I really love what Albarn has done with the Gorillaz. I can’t imagine any other Britpop frontman being able to pull a crossover like that off. I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Blur videos available:
1. She’s So High
2. There’s No Other Way
3. Bang
4. Popscene
5. For Tomorrow
6. Chemical World
7. Sunday Sunday
8. Girls and Boys
9. To The End
10. Parklife
11. End Of A Century
12. Country House
13. The Universal
14. Stereotypes
15. Charmless Man
16. Beetlebum
17. Song 2
18. On Your Own
19. M.O.R.
20. Tender
21. Coffee & TV
22. No Distance Left To Run

Spaghetti Western (video)

July 24th, 2008 . by Jilly

My sister Sommer sent me this stop-motion video, it sort of reminds of Gumby.

I’ve had this Estelle/Kanye West song stuck in my head all day.

Lykke Li covers A Tribe Called Quest

July 22nd, 2008 . by Jilly

Lykke Li covered a Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It?”. What do you think of her cover? I like it.

Here’s St. Vincent performing “Marry Me” with her band in a trailer in Norway. How rad is the violin in this song?

Weezer covers Radiohead’s “Creep” with 200 off their fans.

Feist counts to 4 on Sesame Street. Sweet or sickeningly sweet?

ThisistheLast:Thursday Roundup

July 17th, 2008 . by Jilly

You Ain’t No Picasso has Spiritualized performing a beautiful cover of Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You in the End” here.

The BBC reports that Ian Curtis’s gravestone was stolen. It had the inscription “Ian Curtis 18 - 5 - 80″ and the words “Love Will Tear Us Apart”.

Lily Allen posted a new song on her My Space this week entitled “Who’d of Known”. Listen. I have such a thing for pink hair.

Duffy was interviewed on NPR’s World Cafe and performed a couple of songs here. Bernard Butler (former guitarist of Suede) produced the album. Forget about Amy Winehouse.

Scarlett Johansson covered The Cure’s “Boy’s Don’t Cry” here. It feels kind of soulless.

Radiohead:House of Cards (Video)

July 16th, 2008 . by Jilly

Radiohead just released their video for “House of Cards“. Absolutely beautiful.

…no cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects. The video was created entirely with visualizations of that data.

Watch how they made the video. Its not something that I understand, but its pretty damn cool.
